Matthew J. Montoya Sr. is a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in management, training, and strategic advisory roles within the corrections and security sectors. His career highlights include serving in supervisory capacities where he has demonstrated a successful track record of leadership, strategic communication, and project development. Montoya is well-versed in corrections, security management, and is a certified instructor and professional lecturer, offering his expertise in security consulting for prisons, jails, and security organizations.

Montoya's career has spanned various roles, beginning as an Assistant Warden at San Miguel County Detention Center, where he oversaw inspections, conducted investigations, and played a key role in hiring, retention, and training. His journey continued through progressive ranks, including serving as a Sergeant and Lieutenant in Santa Fe County detention facilities, where he was responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and operational efficiency of the facilities. His tenure as an Administrative Captain further solidified his expertise in creating training curricula, policy management, and compliance audits.

In addition to his domestic contributions, Montoya extended his expertise internationally as a trainer and advisor in Kabul, Afghanistan, for DynCorp International. Here, he ensured operational procedures complied with national laws and human rights standards while advising Afghan security forces.

Montoya has also contributed significantly to the private sector, providing armed security and overseeing transportation and security operations for The Diamond Group and Tesuque Casino Development Corporation, respectively. His roles have emphasized customer service, employee development, and policy management, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to excellence in various settings.

A New Mexico native, Montoya holds an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice from Santa Fe Community College, along with certifications from the New Mexico Corrections Training Academy and the New Mexico Department of Public Safety as a Firearms Instructor. He is also a recognized NM Conceal Carry instructor, emphasizing the importance of responsible firearm handling and safety.
